Here’s your host, expert marketer and founder of growth 99 Cameron Hemphill,
hey everybody. Cameron Hemphill, here your host for medical millionaire. Hey, first off, thanks so much for taking the time to tune into our podcast. Our goal is to give incredible value and insight into the medical spa market. So if you’re an injector, you’re in the esthetic space, DERM space, cosmetic space, whether it’s surgical, non surgical, this podcast, it’s 100% for you. So wherever you’re at within your specific practice, entrepreneurial business, and you’re wanting to get to the next level of success, there is incredible value throughout all of the episodes that we have produced on this podcast, whether it’s we talk about digital marketing, website strategy, social media, SEO, paid media, or really just getting into how to be a successful entrepreneur and Run your practice like a business at all aspects. This is for you. So we consult some of the top injectors and med spa owners all over the country, and we have for years, and throughout that experience, we have heard great wins, great losses, struggles. We’ve heard great victories. We’ve heard achievement, and then we’ve also heard a tremendous amount of challenges, right? So what we do is we internally consult, incubate that data, and then we produce valuable content and project that out for you. So no matter where you’re at within your specific experience of entrepreneurship or running your practice, we want to make sure that you’re getting great content to help you get to the next level. And what I want to talk about today is that little device that we constantly carry around, right? It’s that phone, and that phone is really a super computer. And we are so lucky to live in this day and age to where we have such powerful technology in this small handheld device, right? And the nice thing about it is you can check your emails on demand, your calendar on demand, book appointments on demand, manage your leads on demand, manage your patients on demand, shoot you can sign documents with a Wi Fi connection or a four or 5g connection,
anywhere you’re at within in the world. I mean, you could be at the gym, doing business at the same time. You can be on the airplane connect to Wi Fi and actually signing documents or looking at consent forms, or whatever aspects of the business it is, it even could be has to do with like profit and loss statements, right? So it’s, it’s very nice. I couldn’t even imagine trying to run a practice. And maybe I’m just, you know, it’s just where I’m at with, with, you know, the generation that I am, but running a practice 30 years ago where everything is pen and paper, maybe the fax machine, you know, it just came out, and that’s super cool. And you can send a fax and sit there and hear the dial up and send the send the thing over the paper over. I have a hard time comprehending that, because I grew up in, really, the digital space, and I’ve been in the, you know, digital technology, digital marketing, for, I mean, as long as I can remember going on 1520, years, right when it comes to, like CRM, when it comes to digital marketing. And so I’m a very much technology enthusiast. And what’s interesting, though, is that phone, although it gives you so much power and your ability to be so productive and so proactive and get so much done in a short period of time, it can also be a downfall. It can also ruin relationships. It can also pull you out of really, like being a human and just being in this digital environment and just seeing how much screen time you actually do right social media can can really drain a tremendous amount of screen time from you and really draw you away from what’s most important to you. So although we have this aka super computer at our fingertips, which I am very much a fan of, I’m also a very big fan of learning how to manage it and not letting it manage you. If you let it manage you, and you find yourself, you know, having anxiety when you have your phone, you’re constantly looking at you constantly looking at it. You’re constantly looking at it. I’m 100% guilty of it myself, because it’s always sending, you know, notifications and an email and the sounds going off and you know, it’s there’s just so much going on in this device. And you can connect to so many apps, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, your email, your calendar. I mean, everything.
Thing, right? Text messages, phone calls, there’s, there’s a lot going on, and so it creates a lot of noise, which, which is a great thing, but again, you have to understand how to manage it. And so something that I have learned that’s really helped me and helped my relationships and also within the folks that I have talked with, in our masterminds, and within our network and going to conferences, there is a tremendous amount of demand in being an entrepreneur. There is a tremendous amount of discipline, and everybody’s kind of counting on you, right? And everybody should be able to always get a hold of you. Well, I’ve also become a big fan of knowing when to put the phone down and put it away and be 100%
focused on the present and what you are currently doing. Have you ever been in a meeting or been on a zoom call, even or been around like you’ve gone to dinner or lunch with your family or whatever, and everybody’s looking at their phones like you made this plan to go have lunch together or dinner together. And you like, Okay, here’s where we’re gonna go. Everybody get in the car. Let’s drive there. It’s the experience that you’re gonna go do like, that’s the whole purpose, right?
And you get there, and everybody’s on their phones. So what’s the point? You could have just done that at your house. You could have just done that at the office, right? So stuff like that, it just it bothers me, because you’re investing in the time to get to where you are, and then you’re just pulling yourself back inside of the device, because that device is addicting. There’s so much demand going on, right? And it’s okay to leave the phone at home if you can’t do it, if you if you just always got to pull it out, you get the anxiety, right? Get the anxiety. Leave it at home. And I can tell you I’ve done it personally. I’ve left my phone at home. In fact, I went to dinner last night with my wife and two kids after a long work day, and I left my phone at home. My wife left her phone at home. And it was really funny when we got to the restaurant, they had like that QR code. They didn’t have the restaurants out. And I look at my wife and I said, Did you bring your phone? She’s like, No. I’m like, Heck, yeah, awesome. Good work. In my mind, I didn’t say that. I just, I just knew she didn’t for some reason, and I didn’t bring mine either. And I’m like, Well, we have no way of looking at the menu. This is kind of cool. So the lady had to bring us out the paper menu, and our kids didn’t have any devices to look at. Now, what did that do? Our experience last night was amazing. We had conversations. I talked to my seven year old, I talked to my five year old. We made plans for tonight.
We actually laughed. We talked with the other table next to us. We had some jokes with them, like we had a really fun experience. And I truly feel that if I had taken my phone with me, or my wife had taken my phone with me, that moment would have been interrupted from a notification on our device. And it could have been a text message, it could have been an email, it could have been a social media notification, whatever it is, right, we would have been pulled out of what we were enjoying and really giving my kids a disservice of being present with their family.
And
I think it was really important to reflect on that. So when I came home, I looked at my phone, and I did, in fact, have about 15 text messages.
And I looked at it, I was like, wow, those would have all come to me when I was sitting down trying to enjoy my dinner with my family. And I didn’t even I just saw if I had any notifications. I didn’t go into them and start drilling through them immediately, right? But that was a great reflection on knowing that things can wait, right? And so you’re constantly thinking, when somebody sends you a text message or an email, you almost have to reply right away, and I am very guilty of that. I’m very fast, I’m very agile. I had to get a lot of things done in a short period of time,
but every one of those text messages could wait until I came back and was able to respond. Now we came back at like eight o’clock at night, right? So business hours were traditionally closed, but as you know, running, running a business, being an entrepreneur, there’s always something going on.

that was a really cool story that I wanted to share with you that was just recent. And I think it’s really important to understand that spending quality time like true quality time with your loved ones is extremely important. Whether it’s it’s your spouse, it’s your kids, friendship, family, parents, you know, whatever it is, your colleagues really enjoying that quality time without interruption, and it also puts you in a position to recharge. Right? And kind of come back to yesterday, I had a really long work day yesterday. I actually worked from 4am till 630
I put in about 14 and a half hours of work yesterday, which was a lot and and I normally don’t work that many hours. I’m pretty good at putting in a 12 hour day, but that extra two and a half hours was very challenging. When I was done, my wife could just see it in my face. She was like, wow, you. She didn’t have to ask. She just knew. And
she knew that she actually brought home some some steaks. She’s like, hey, like, these are some good steaks. We should barbecue them. And I looked at her, and she looked at me, and she’s like, guys, let’s go out to dinner. She just knew I didn’t have any more of me. I didn’t want to cook, I didn’t want to clean,
and so that’s what we did. So I think in in I, you know, I talked to her about my day, and my kids about my day at dinner and and I now, I’m here today, and I’m recharged. I’m feeling good, right? So it put you, it put me in a position to unplug, recharge, put my phone away. The other thing that I think is is interesting is
coming back to I produced a an episode early on this podcast talking about time as the most valuable asset we have. And if you’ve ever ran the actual math on how much time you have left in this world, that really puts things in perspective, and that can also help you, like, leave your phone at, you know, at home, or put it away, or put it in your in your room, or leave it at the office, or whatever you have to do. Right? Run the math on how much time you have. How old are you? What is the average life expectancy date based on male and female and age in this current status, and run the math and how many days do you have left, right? So, so don’t waste your time. Don’t waste your days. And really, if you’re gonna do something, have purpose and really be in the moment and be present, right?
The other thing is, if you ever get those notifications of like looking at your screen time,
I think
I have a iPhone, and the iOS sends me an update. Like on Sunday, it’s looking at screen time, and I’m always trying to get my screen time down so you can always look at your screen time. I guess it’s a nice little key performance indicator of how much time you looked at your phone. And it actually breaks it down on like, how much you looked at social, how much you looked at email, how much was like productivity looking at the phone versus non productivity. And I think that’s pretty cool. So if you don’t have that being sent to you, it’s embedded in, like the native iOS app. I think it’s really cool.
And then just coming back to to being human, I think a lot of us have really become disconnected in living in this, like social fantasy, if you will, right, where you see lots of stories on Instagram, you see lots of posts on Instagram, and you see people’s personality social, and then you see them in real life, and their personality is different. I think it’s kind of interesting, right? So it’s, I think we really need to get back on understanding humanity and understanding that we’re human, and having that connection and understanding where we came from and how long we’ve been on this earth and how things came to we where they are now, and having that person to person connection outside of your digital environment is so important, and losing track of that, or losing sight of that, especially for the entrepreneurs that are younger than I am,
you can get really caught up in this social media, like frenzy, if you will, and almost living this life through social media versus reality.
Me, which is very much true, and I know every one of you know what I’m talking about, right? So I think it’s important to to get back to your roots, to put that phone away, shake someone’s hand, look them in the eye, have a heart to heart conversation, go do something that you experienced with somebody and remember that create memories through human humanity versus social media, right? There’s a time and a place for social media. I’m on social media. You almost have to be, especially if you’re running a business, right? And it’s a great way to connect with your friends and family, versus, like, sending a text message, because it’s a great way to connect through imagery. And you know, what is everybody doing and what trips have they gone on and sharing, like, you know, pictures we just had Halloween, sharing, you know, pictures of Halloween and the kids dressing up and all that fun stuff. Like, I totally get it, but at the same time,
I got another story for you. Actually, my kids just had the their Halloween parade at their school, and I went to it, and every single one of the parents, not every single one, but most of them, the kids, would come out and they pull out their phone, and they would like film the whole thing through their phone. They’re looking at their phone, and the phone’s following the kid, and I’m watching them. My kids haven’t come out yet, and I’m watching them. I’m like, man, take a picture, put it back in your pocket and just watch through your own eyes versus the lens of your phone. You know, I didn’t say that, but that’s what I’m thinking. And so I’m really aware of that. I’ve become more aware of that.
And so my kids came out, I snapped a couple pictures, but my phone back away and I just watched them, because I wanted to get the full experience of them walking around, versus them constantly seeing me film them or take a picture, right? The other thing too is your kids start to notice when you get older, or when your kids get older, they start to notice how much time you spend on your phone,
and I think you’re really doing them a disservice if you’re constantly on your phone when you should be enjoying family time. So you know this, this is all about really trying to just get reconnected, recharge, run the math on time, knowing why you did what you did for the day, throughout the entire work day, when you you know, I guess, should be on your phone conducting business activities, and then having the ability to put that away and basically pivot on a dime and embrace where you currently are now, right? Because I’m a true believer that anytime you have a conversation with somebody. You should be present, and you should know that they know you’re listening to them. Okay, so that’s what I wanted you guys to get out today. I really hope that you enjoyed this episode. Thank you so much for tuning in to medical millionaire again. This is Cameron Hemphill.
