Hey, what’s up, everybody? Cameron Hemphill, here your host for medical millionaire. Hey, first off, guys, thank you so much for taking the time to tune into the podcast. Our goal is to give incredible value and insight into the esthetics market. So if you own a practice, you’re thinking about getting into the industry, and the specialty This podcast is 100% designed for you, and we want to help you take your practice at the next level. So today, I have a friend that has joined us. She is extremely successful. I’ve known her for four years. She is a nurse practitioner. She’s been in the esthetic space for over 10 years. I mean, this woman has created nine streams of income, and she’s coached over 50 plus entrepreneurs and really helping other entrepreneurs in this space become super successful. And so, guys, I want to welcome Yvonne. She is with the medical art sorry, medical esthetics Art Institute. Sorry, there’s a little bit of a tongue twister there, but I know that’s the parent company, and you own a lot of other companies. So, Yvonne, thank you so much for taking the time. I appreciate
you coming My pleasure. Thanks for having me. Cameron, absolutely. So,
I mean, I, we were just talking a little bit offline, and I was, I was looking at, you know, the website that your new website that just went live, which is beautiful, by the way, my goodness, you are a you change people’s lives like you, making a tremendous amount of impact in this space. And, of course, I follow you on social media, and I see, like your your lots of conferences, and you know, you’re very inspiring. Can you, like, walk us through what that fire is like? How do you people aren’t born with that, right? Like, talk us through, like, what gets you up out of the out of the bed and keeps you going and and is so excited to help others?
Well, I am actually really, really obsessed with life. I have a saying is that I do not want to die with anything left in me. I want to be used up, burnt out, worn out. I want it all out. So I I get up at 345, 4am every day, for the most part, unless I’m getting off a flight. That seems like it’s the only thing that gets in my way. But I get up I do my workout. So I have a saying is, I do need for the three, first three hours of every day. And this is something I have my coaching clients do, is I fill my cup up first, first thing in the morning, and when I do that, I can give the world my best. So yes, thanks to you, my website is beautiful, and that’s where you can find out more about me, but I’m absolutely 100% living full out, enjoying every single day of my life, and I’m obsessed with helping others find that life that they want to create by their own design. And that’s truly what I’ve created. Bryn, my personal assistant, I’ve been out working by the pool, and that was a dream I’ve had for a long time is to create my ideal life. And I pinch myself every day that I am actually living it.
So we, you were just at the pool. Just now, I have a pool
in my backyard, so we sit by the pool and take coaching calls. I love
it. Oh my gosh, you figured it out. There you go. And you’re, you’re in St George. Your HQ is in st, George, Utah, right, correct. I love that area. It’s so pretty down there. My gosh, it’s it’s grown so much over the years. Yes, we love it here. Okay, so I want to talk about more about that morning routine where you say, Fill my cup up first, so I can help others. I mean, you threw out a time there. I think you heard you say, 3am normally. Like, I’m the one that’s the early riser. I’m like, a 434, 45 person. I may hit the snooze button once, and so that’s pretty early. I beat the sun up. But talk to us about that, because there’s similarities in success, like the people that I see at the gym in the morning. I’ve gotten to know them over the years. And there’s, there’s not too many. It’s, it’s a pretty private gym. It’s really nice and but, but they’re, they’re there to, like, get after their day. They have intention behind it. And I know that there’s a lot of similar qualities there that you and I share so but I want it from your perspective, just dive a little deeper on that morning routine. What that looks like? Because I always love to hear it, and it’s I find so much similarity in entrepreneurs and how they’ve had success. Yeah,
so I’ve been doing this morning routine for as long as I can remember. So getting up. So when I get up, the first thing I do, I roll out of bed onto my knees. Okay? And I kissed a ground that I’m alive. It’s a it’s a privilege every single day that I get to be alive. So that’s my opportunity to make the best of it. So I give gratitude for life, God, the universe, whatever you believe, I give gratitude. So I’ll move my body, I stretch, I sit in silence. I’ll say affirmations, I’ll journal, and then I’ll read something positive so and then, of course, I take my hormones because I’m in menopause. So there’s my routine, and then I get off to the gym. I’m always at the gym at 5am and I have my my am crowd too. They’re all great friends, and, you know, we look forward to seeing each other all the time. And they always know when I’m traveling. And so they always, you know, message me on Instagram that they’re still at the gym and that I miss yoga or whatever. But so then I do that workout, and then I come home and I take my supplements and get my kids up, get them fed, get them off to school, and then I get to work. And so that’s Mondays our admin day where we work on the business. My my life looks different now. I’m not in the clinic a whole lot anymore, because I do have the seven businesses, and so I have an amazing team that does a lot of the the legwork for me. These days, I spend a lot of time writing lectures or taking coaching calls or, you know, moving the needle in other places. So right now, our focus is on our medical cadaver retreat in Hawaii in June, wow. And then we have our medical conference in Park City in August. We just wrapped up our women’s conference few weeks ago, so we’re always on to something new and like neck deep in my book. My book should be out this fall. So those are the things I spend my time on. Mostly,
jeez, that’s that was a lot.
Okay, so very similar, early riser hit the gym supplements, hormone as well. I take testosterone. Maybe I need to, you know that that extra bolt, or whatever it is, but I’m in the I’m in the industry as well, right? So I learn a lot about these, you know, from what is is taking place. And, man, I’ve I love being connected with with practice owners, because it’s really helped me, like, not only, like, look better in some ways, but feel better from the inside out. It’s definitely helped me as an entrepreneur, too, and a lot of the same, like, gratitude, you know, prayer, you know, going through like, Hey, I’m here. There’s a lot of similarities there. And you know, as I’ve studied other entrepreneurs, Yvonne, it’s I see it every like, almost every conversation that I have is very, very similar. And I’m sure you’ve been doing your routine for a long time, right? And it’s all about the discipline and the accountability. Can’t do it once. You have to do it over and over and over and over again. And like it’s a discipline that keeps us so laser focused. But you made a comment towards the end of that, that was Monday is admin work. That’s when I work on the business, and I think in entrepreneurship, especially in esthetics, like you can get so wrapped up working in the day to day, because we’re like, you know, they’re, they’re behind the appointments. I mean, you know, there’s customers coming in, there’s, it’s chaos, and so we walk us through that, and I’m sure that’s part of your coaching. But like that, that is an area that I think is, you know, needs to be talked about of working on the business, what do you what do you see from that regard? Like, talk to us about that.
I think for me, I take a lot of time to self reflect. And so Monday is my day to self reflect with my team on how the business is running. What are we doing right? What are we not doing right? And then, most importantly, how’s my my team’s workload? So we do a red, yellow, green light. If your light is red, we just, we just wave the flag. We’re tapping out. Let me take something off your plate. If your light is yellow, green, I’m going to delegate to you. So I assess the business. We’re really working on our KPIs, so we can really dial that in. We we just brought on a new personal assistant. So, you know, when you have team changes, you have to adjust some responsibility. So we’re really trying to dial in our KPIs. And I’ll tell you, it gets messy when you have those nine streams of revenue, you know, and seven different businesses, and trying to keep that separate. So we’re we’re dialing that in, but Monday is our day of like, how can we do better? It’s really just a putting a pulse on what are we doing right, what we’re not doing right, what’s coming, what are we anticipating, and then just checking in with my team to make sure that they are doing well, mentally, themselves, emotional, all that, because they all have their own personal lives and their personal things, and so it’s just a time that we all work together. And it’s, it’s great. We have a great, great team, and that’s awesome, and respect each other. So it’s great.
Oh, it’s phenomenal. I think, like, like, you know, a lot of people just get, yes, I’ll. Take the Monday appointment. If the you know, the client throws that out there, you know, I think, as you’re maybe in the early days, you know, you’ll, hey, I’ll, I’ll do whatever appointment, whatever time makes sense, right? Like when people are just building, but it gets to the point in your career to where it’s like, no, I’m going to be a little bit more selective, because I know that this Monday time with the team is going to help us grow, and help the business grow. And then also, whoever you’re coaching, it’s going to, you know, make them grow as well, right? So you can kind of dial it in. Talk to us about the cadaver lab in Hawaii. That sounds really cool,
yeah, so we, I did my first cadaver lab. So Utah doesn’t really have a lot of cadaver opportunities. Interesting. There was a student, a PA, that had taken my training a couple years ago, and he, he runs one of the biggest cadaver labs on like, Tiktok. He’s like, huge and so we, I was trying to teach him our way of doing techniques so that we could create a course that was specifically designed for injectors. Well, that didn’t quite work out. So what I did was I hired Dr Jonathan Sykes. I fly him out here, and I pay him to do his portion. And the first one we did was great. We had a great turnout, but it was just really anatomy. So this last one, I did more of a retreat style, where they came in on on Friday, we did an evening reception, then we were in class all day Saturday, and then Sunday, we got up and did brunch and a hike. And then I thought, You know what? The people in Hawaii don’t have much of an opportunity either, and have a really great community out there. I’ve trained so many injectors. I’ve been going out there about every three to six months for the past four years. And so I’ve built a beautiful community out there. And I said, you know, I’m going to bring cadaver to you and Dr Sykes. And so I rented a beautiful retreat mansion. It’s got seven you can sleep 17 people in it. You can go off the back patio and onto a hike or out the front into the ocean, and we’re bringing in a chef to cook ukulele Friday night for the welcome reception. And we’ve invited all of the community. You don’t have to have a ticket, you don’t have to be registered for the event. We want to just network, mingle and really support that community. So Friday, everybody’s welcome. Then Saturday, we do anatomy activities, then a dissection, and then we break off into workshops where we do live injections, ultrasound and and complications with the esthetic er kit that
sounds like the cadaver lab that I need to be going to one in Hawaii. What island is it?
So it’s on Oahu. Okay,
cool, awesome. Yeah, we’ve, I’ve seen esthetics grow quite rap quite rapidly in all the islands. It’s been like, the big island, for example, is fairly, it’s, it’s, I would say, more behind in terms of technology and, you know, the the esthetic space. But, man, this, it’s interesting to see that this industries reach, what the capabilities that it has in the US right now. It’s, it’s awesome. And then the event in August, that’s in Park City, yeah,
yes, yeah. Really become Utah’s Premier, number one Med Spa conference. It’s such a great turnout. The energy is amazing. People leave so high like because, you know me, I’m all about empowerment. So we usually do have a motivational speaker come in, and then we have the best doctors in the country lecturing the best providers in the country. So this year we’ll have Julie jubilant, Julie so Julie best Kaplan talking on complications, we have Dr Sunil chill curry doing he’s going to help me with this hair loss. He’s doing a bunch with silk firm and exosomes. And then we have Dr Steven Weiner. He’ll be going over complications. He’s the president of CMAC. Now we actually have Dr Diane Duncan from Denver, Colorado. She has created a new topical weight loss cream that’s FDA approved, and it’s scientific on the results that she’s getting for it’s more of that, that deeper fat, that, you know, the belly fat. So she’s gonna launch her product at our event, cool, and we have an esthetician track this year, an injectables track and a business track. So interesting.
Park City is beautiful. In fact, I don’t talk about growth. I am much on the show, but I think our team did commit to to going there, so it’s a good chance I’ll see you there. Yeah, I’m excited to have you guys. Yeah, I see Weiner everywhere. Dr Weiner, my goodness, that guy travels a lot. He’s super sharp, so that’ll be cool to see him there, too. All right, so talk to us about your journey. How did you get into the esthetic space, like, what inspired you to become a serial entrepreneur? I mean, these are, like seven businesses, nice dreams of income you’ve. In the space for a long time. You know the space. You know you have a great network in this space. Like, talk to us about the journey of esthetics. Why? Like, what? How did you get here?
Um, I love that you asked that. So it all started, and this is the title of my book, from food stamps to fortunes. So I grew up very, very poor, a single mother raising six girls, and I didn’t want that life for myself, so I made the intentional decision to go to grad school. And funny thing was, I went to grad school to do reproductive medicine. That’s how I got my identical twin boys, and that’s all I wanted to do. And so I ended up getting a position with the godfather of IVF, and he actually brought me on to his partner had left, and he wanted to bring me on his new partner. And things were going great, but the environment was really, really toxic, and it was just not a there’s a lot of drama and cattiness, and me being female, working with him, his nurse of 20 years, was not happy with that decision. And so I was just like, you know, I’m I’m a Virgo, I’m an empath. I’m very sensitive to energies and environments. And so I was just like, I’m not, I’m going to give this up. So I left Las Vegas, went up to Heber, is where we built our house, and I I couldn’t find a job, and I had worked for Intermountain Healthcare for 16 years, and I was a new grad nurse practitioner, so they wouldn’t hire me, but they would hire me as a trauma nurse to run their their traumas at Deer Valley ski resort. So I did that for a season, almost two seasons, and then I literally applied for whatever job I could get. And the first job that popped up was ideal image doing laser hair removal as a nurse practitioner. And I was like, so that was it, that was my way. And at that time, ideal image had just rolled out neurotoxins and dermal fillers, because they were predominantly laser hair removal. So January 2014 I took that on, and I was with them for a year and a half, but I had to commute the canyon. So if you know that mountain, it’s dangerous, it’s snowy, it’s icy. So after a year and a half, I’m like, you know, I can do this on my own. I’ll just set up a small, little one room shop in a hair salon, then I can get my kids off to kindergarten and pick them up. And that’s what I did. So I started results, medical esthetics and weight loss and the fall of 2015,
okay, and that was that had to be in the Salt Lake Valley that
was in Heber, that was in Heber, oh my
gosh, and I don’t market until I sold it to a student last March. Holy
cow, yeah. Okay, so you had it that long, yeah? Wow. I awesome. I didn’t know that. Okay, so then you would drive down. So you drive down to good when you worked at ideal image,
yes, I drove down, and then I quit that and started my own thing. Yeah,
was the ideal image. Was a Utah based company, like,
right? No, they’re out of Florida. Their headquarters,
they’re huge. They have They’re huge. Now, yeah, 100 locations,
right? Yeah, yeah. But I remember hearing them I’m like, never like, 94 was it? 94 nine or whatever, 97 one, whatever it is. Now, I remember hearing those radio ads all the time about hair, like, laser hair removal,
yeah, one in South Jordan, and they were always on the radio, yes, yeah, always on
the radio. That’s funny. Well, I mean, for the audience, you guys, like, we from, I’m from Salt Lake City, Utah, Yvonne is obviously spent a lot of time there as well, so we have a little bit of rapport there. Okay, so that’s really cool. In your book, you said it was from talk to what was the name of the title? Again, from
food stamps to fortunes, and Haley even working on that. So we started it in January. We were hoping to have it done by May, but it’s evolved. And so we’re actually going to start the second one here shortly.
And is that tailored to, like the esthetic space too?
My story of, yeah, yeah, it’s my a little bit, a little bit of my story, but how I’ve climbed the ladder in the industry, and how I now coach others and help others, and I’m just obsessed with serving other women and teaching them what I’ve done and empowering them to live a big life and do all the
things that’s amazing. I love it. That’s awesome. Okay, so I have a question for you. I want to start a med spa, not me, but a persona. Let’s say like, because you’re in the space, obviously coaching and, you know, let’s say I’m, you know, I’m looking to start a practice. I want to, I’m a nurse practitioner and and wherever I live, I’m looking to start a Mets box. I’ve heard great things, and I’ve seen it on Instagram. And, you know, I hear the industry is, like, blowing up. So like, for those are looking to break into the industry, what is the most critical step? Steps they need to take to get started to, I wouldn’t say, guarantee success, but like, move that needle to help more in that direction, to kind of assure success, if you will.
This is great because I get some coaching clients that I wish they would have came to me sooner, right? Spend some time in this space, go to the conferences, shadow someone, get a mentor, really, see if this is right for you. Out of all the people I’ve trained and I’ve coached, there’s been a few that have left after they’re like, you know, I just this just isn’t where I belong. I’m going to go back to the ER, I’m going to go back. And I always say, you know, I give them praise Kudo for jumping in, trying it and really giving it time to see if it is right for you. But before you make that investment, because I’ve seen so many people get in a really, really hard spot, because they’ll take a weekend class, and then they’ll go out and they’ll get a space, and they’ll buy four devices, so now they’re over a million dollars in debt. And then they’re like, What I don’t I don’t have any patients walking in the door. I’m like, yeah, just because you built it doesn’t mean they’re going to come. And I will tell you, the single most important thing is find somebody that’s in the industry that’s doing really, really well, and pay them and spend time with them. So one of my students, Jen Ellison, I’m not sure if you know her. She’s the one that bought my practice in Heber. She just launched an internship program, which is fantastic. So she refers them all to me to get trained. But then, once you’re trained and you’re out and you’re you need time on the job, learning the job, learning how to run a business, do her program when you, when you spend time there, then you really get an idea, or go work at ideal image or somewhere else, so that you actually learn what the industry is all about. And I will tell you, Cameron, I 10 years ago, I was the only one. I had no competition. I’ve trained everybody in the heat in the Hebrew Valley, and so I trained my own competition, if that’s what you want to call it. But it’s a lot harder now in 2024 to start a med spa than it was in 2015 I mean, yeah, in 2015 so it’s definitely more challenging now, because there’s one on every corner right. And I was just in Dallas last weekend, and there’s ads popping up on my Instagram that you can take an injector course for $700 and they’re filling up these conference rooms with like 50 students at $700 and I’m like, what is happening to this industry? Yeah,
I think, like a lot of it, like the social reach of it all, you know, it’s, it’s interesting to like, because I zoom out, I look in, obviously, at our company, we help with a lot of the marketing aspects and the websites and the CRM and the lead management, all that stuff. And it’s, my goodness, there is a the space is obviously growing, which, which, which is great. But to your point, you know, like, take your time. I see that. I see that as well. So, like, one of the challenges that I see is they get really excited, want to get in the space, think that you could make a tremendous amount of money really quick. And maybe they’re getting into it for the wrong reason. For the wrong reason, instead of just like, hey, like, you’re here to help people, you know, like, serve people, like, safety first all that stuff. But almost like, I don’t, I’m not saying everybody, but I do see some dollar signs. So go get the state of the art space, get the state of the art equipment, and not have any patience. Then they’ll come to a company like ours, and they’re almost out of cash, and they’re just crossing their fingers. And those that, those are the ones that, like, literally keep me up at night. And it’s like, you know, like when I look at success stories, because I’ve had quite a few people on the show, and the the ones that have had a lot of success took your exact direction, like, go somewhere, learn go to conferences, Shadow somebody. Learn how to run a practice, like a business with like, tech tools, bookings, EMRs, like, learn about it, see if it’s right for you. And what’s cool is, if you are at a space and maybe you build, build up a clientele, you know, and you want to go on your own. I don’t know what the situation is with, like, where you where you work, or whatever, but you can actually, like, start small and then generate revenue, and then maybe go get a new space and buy the equipment and scale up from there, right? I think, I think they just want to go all in. And I think it’s a very vulnerable space from a liquidity standpoint,
that’s exactly what I did. So I started in that small space, $500 a month in a salon. Then I went off onto my own space, still $500 a month. And then I grew from there, but I had close to a million dollars in savings before I bought my first equipment, and, you know, half a million before I took on my first employee. So I really built a huge. Cash Reserve, but I literally just put the money right back in the business. I didn’t even like, I’ve always said, listen, Sis, you have no business buying a designer bag unless you can pay cash for it three times, right? I literally didn’t even buy my own designer bag until last year, and I think I’ve used it once, and it sits in the closet, and I’m like, Yeah, you know. So all of the equipment I have, I’ve paid cash. The location I built here during COVID, paid cash. So they you know, like everything I do, I won’t do it unless I can pay cash. So, but I don’t, but I understand when people get on Instagram and they’re comparing themselves and they build this, I’ve trained plenty of those offices across the country. And I’m like, right the ulcers and the turmoil and your marriage and all the stress that I’ve seen people their health, and I’m like, that is not worth it to me.

No, you’re exactly right. I think, like, social media is interesting, like, it’s, can be very powerful for businesses to grow and, you know, gain new clients and patients and all that stuff. And it can also be looked at through the lens of, oh my gosh, I need to be there, and I need to be there now. And I think that, you know, if you, if you take those actions, like, if you react to that type of situation. It’s not a good environment to be in. And I think, you know, as an entrepreneur, especially in this industry, the specialty take the time to to understand, like, where you’re at in the journey. We’re not all in the same journey. Like you’ve been in this industry for 10 years, right over 10 years. So it’s like, I think some people maybe, like, maybe you get a new follower, right? Maybe, maybe something like that happens because somebody moves to St George, I don’t know, and they want to be you when you’re like, wait a minute, hold on a second. I’ve been at this 10 years. Like, you’re, you’re you’re weak too. It’s just, it’s a different, it’s a different area of your journey right now. And so, like, they have to go through those motions. And so for the audience, you guys, if you’re thinking about getting into space, like, the space is wonderful. It’s, it’s it’s amazing. It’s so much fun. The conferences are fun. The network’s Great. Everybody’s so nice. Like, there is a, there is a great money to be made. And it’s a very rewarding space, because you’re helping build up confidence, you know, and someone, and also, you know, like with the wellness taking off now, my gosh, you can go to, I love going to medical science practices more now than ever, because you can, like, accomplish two objectives, feeling good and looking good like, I love that confidence and and feeling good like the feeling good for me outweighs even, like, the the injectable side of it and the the laser side of it, the treatment side of it, but I appreciate that. So, okay, so I want to talk about, like, empowering women entrepreneurs. This specialty is primarily female, right? And so, I mean, I shoot, I have met so many incredible female entrepreneurs over the years, going to the conferences and and, you know, like, learning about them, and, my gosh, it’s so cool to to watch and have these conversations. So you’re known for that, like you’re known for empowering women to start their own med spa and like, so what are some of like, the unique challenges women face in the industry, like women in particular. How can they overcome them? Well,
first of all, we don’t know business unless you are raised with someone in your family that does business. So for me, I actually went back to school, and I took a pro I took the Dixie entrepreneur program, which is actually Duke University’s entrepreneur program, and so I just wanted to understand business. And then, like I have cupboards full of books, because I’m obsessed with business now, learning as much as I can. And so for women, I would say I ran into this a lot, where I’m not used to working with men or communicating with men on. You know, that business aspect, and I see a lot of women have their husbands involved, where their husbands will do the legwork or the groundwork, or I’ve never had that privilege, really, you know, so for me, and handling employees like that was all new for me, right? And I would say, from all the coaches or the clients I coach, I would say that’s still the greatest problem everyone runs into, is how to handle employees and manage employees. But I’ve really had to learn that. You really have to become that leader. You have to lead them. You have to teach them. And they come with their own personalities. They come with their own, their own baggage, their own, you know, perceptions, their own, you know, experiences. And so you just have to navigate that. But I’ve learned the single most important thing is crucial conversations, having that hard conversation, not taking a personal not making assumptions, and just really having that conversation. So I would say, most business what, you know, women and businesses, they what happens is they learn a skill, and they get really good at it, and then they kind of just fall into this success. And they’ll be like, Yvonne, I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m like, Yeah, welcome to The Club. Because most of us don’t
we just trying to figure it out.
So, and I would say, with all my businesses, I’m that kind of person that just jumps, and I literally stitched the parachute on my way down. It’s like with my book. If you look back on Instagram, in January of last year, I was inspired with this book title. I’ve never even thought about writing a book, and so I literally I’m the kind of person. I put it out in the universe right then and there, and as soon as it goes out, then I have to figure it out. And so now I’m figuring it out, and it will be done so and some things don’t like right now I’m working with there’s five different investment groups in Texas that want me to build them med spots. And I will tell you, it’s probably the first time I’ve really had anxiety or turmoil over this, because I’m like, you’re banking on one provider. That one provider will make or break your business. Everything kind of weighs on that one provider. And I don’t live in Texas, I’m not going to be the that provider. I can build it for you. I can structure I can organize it, I can put all the pieces in place, but I’m not going to be the provider. And so I’m like, how about we try pivoting? I have another idea. And so we’re running we’re going to be meeting at the end of the month with this new idea. But the one investor I am going to move forward with, his daughter just graduated as a family physician, so I will train her up. I will help build it. And then his other daughter is a business major, so I will, I will help that group get that one off the ground, and they want to have multiple locations. So that’s, that’s a new venture I’m about to take on, but I’ve never done it before, and I, but I make that very clear to them, I’ve built my own, I’ve ran my own and I’ve sold my own, so I’ll bring my knowledge, my 10 years plus, of knowledge, to you, but just so you know, I’ve never done this before, so we’re going to have to really communicate our way through this project.
Yeah, yeah. No, absolutely. I mean, working with team members is just like you said. They all come with baggage or personalities or ego or or power and knowledge and inspiration, like all of it, right? And shoot that goes with me too. I think, like all the businesses I’ve been a part of, have the biggest challenges have been, have been people, it’s systems and tools where you can automate things. I love those because I can just put it in place, play a subscription, implement it correctly, move on. You can enhance that experience as well. But, you know, people are people are very challenging, and sometimes, like, you know, you have to depart like you have to part ways and make those hard decisions. And you know, it’s not easy. But yet, I think if you look at the, you know, the what’s best for the business, what’s best for you mentally, what’s best for them? A lot of those decisions have to be made, and so like, have, again, having those crucial conversations that you mentioned. That’s a great book, by the way. So no, I completely agree. And I mean, you know, it’s entrepreneurs are, are really, really inspiring and neat people, where it’s like, ideas come and, you know, the ones that we take action on it and don’t take action on, I’m sure you say no to a lot of things, right? But once you take action on, you say, Okay, I’m going to do it. And then, you know, you take action and you just, you start doing it, right? And I think a lot of times like, you can get stuck in your own mind and say, you know, like, Should I do this? Should I not do it? You kind of go through the pros and the cons, and, you know,
when really, like,
entrepreneurs are action takers, and then the action just starts to produce the reward, and the reward becomes the income. And then everything kind of goes into place. But. You never start like, it’ll just it’ll never happen.
Yeah, and I would say that would be the second thing is that lot of women get in their head, insecurities, self doubt, and that’s where the 80% psychology comes in. Is I have to be there to be like, I have to really teach them how to rewire their brain and how to speak positively to themselves and and, you know, be realistic as well, because we all have this. It’s so funny. How many come to me and they’re like, I want to have multiple locations. I want this multi million dollar Med Spa, and I want to be able to sell it and move to Ibiza. And I’m like, Okay, let’s, let’s back this up a little bit, you know, and then we start dialing it in. And then they’re like, Okay, yeah, no, that’s not really what I want. Because I’m like, I don’t think you realize, yes, it looks glamorous, because that’s what the social media. But when you when you start working at this, anytime someone tells me they want multiple locations, I’m like, okay, oh, okay, because you’re never going to be home. You know, like, if you have children at home and you have a good marriage, it’s going to be tested for sure. So I always just, we do the work, we do the inner work, and it’s like, I want to know your why, because it trust me, sis, things are going to get really, really hard, and there’s going to be plenty days you want to cry and stay in bed, but that’s not an option. So your why has to be so compelling that you’re like, Girl, we’re pulling up our big girl boots, and we’re going, you know, Oh yeah, yeah, you get, you get neck deep in, and there’s no way out other than, like, surrender, and so I just have to be very tough.
Yeah, very good, very clear with them. So is that okay? So is that something that you’ll go through is like, let’s really clearly define your why, right? And so, and I’m sure that’s like an onion, right? You got to peel some layers back, right? And then what do you do with that? I mean, obviously, I know you have your own methodology, but I’m curious to know what you do, because I have my why. I know what it is. I’ve had to recalibrate it, you know, as my journey has gone through. But when you pull those, those layers back, what do you find? So
the the biggest thing that’s going to pull those layers back is, I always say putting pen to paper is powerful. They my clients, have a lot of journaling, and then they got to go see their seven year old self. They have, they have a meeting with their seven year old self. And we do this at my Women’s Conference, and it’s so powerful. And then they have a meeting with their 80 year old self as well. So we really get down to it. And so then they come back to me, and their job is to create. I want them to create this perfect, ideal life, and I want them to read it to me so I can visualize the whole process. And then once I know exactly what they want, and we break it down into, I use the seven F’s. So that’s family, friends, fun, finances, fitness. He calls it future, but I call it philanthropy. Okay, so I break their five year vision down into these seven F’s. And my book will talk about this a little bit. And then we literally, literally on that call, we start putting it on the calendar. And then so those seven F’s, they tally one point each day. If you’re not living today full out, it doesn’t matter what your goals are. Five years from now, you gotta live full out. You gotta enjoy the journey today. So you get seven point tally to fulfill one of those F’s each day. That’s a well balanced life. That’s the will of life. Yeah, you don’t just arrive at the destination. You’ll miss the whole beauty of the journey, right? And there’s a beautiful saying is like, what do you think is the most? Most important? Is it the journey or the destination? And I think it’s like a Winnie the poo, and he’s like, it’s the people you’re with, right? Yeah, yeah. So I take them through this, these seven F’s, and we literally program it into their calendar. So I take their five years, break it down to three years, breaking down to 12 months and six so even though they’re only working with me maybe six months, they have a plan in place, and it’s programmed, it’s plugged in, it’s on the calendar. It’s massive action. They know exactly what they need to do. And all my clients have major breakthroughs. The only ones I’ve only ever had two, and they just wouldn’t do the work. So you don’t do the work, you don’t get the results and anything in life, right? Very true. But my program works. I mean, the testimonies, the transformations that the life changing, the multi, multiple businesses, my clients are now having multiple businesses, so multiple streams of revenue, right?
Yeah, yeah, that’s gonna make it feel freaking amazing. I
love it. It’s
so awesome. I love that. Okay, I want to ask you something about leadership. So obviously, you know, being an entrepreneur, you have to be, you have to be a leader. You’re going to hire people, you’re going to fire people. You’re going to make decisions. These could be financial decisions, purchasing decisions for inventory, location decisions, all sorts of decisions that that come along with. Being a leader. And some of those decisions need to be like quick decisions. Some maybe need to be thought out, right? But when it comes to like leadership and your experience, like, what qualities make a true leader? And let’s apply that to the medical esthetic space,
yeah, well, leadership is I learned this actually when I was with ideal image, because at that time, they didn’t have on site managers, and that when they did bring someone on, it was like it was really disruptive, and that was really another reason why I left. There’s a difference between managing people and I don’t want to manage. I don’t want to oversee. I don’t want to helicopter you. I don’t want to I don’t want to do that. Okay, there’s a book Gina Whitman wrote about being the boss, and I’m like, I don’t want to be anyone’s boss. Like, I don’t want to be anyone’s boss. I want my employees be very independent. We communicate. We call it clarify and verify. If I ask you to do a task, you clarify, you understand it, and then you verify that it’s been done, right? But a leader, I want to lead my team. When you interview with me, if you don’t have goals, we’re going to create goals for you. And even if you’re not the right part, I hope you go live those goals. But my team, their personal life, is just as important. Their personal goals are important. And I know I’ve learned this over the years. Is when my employees come to work for me, I’m going to make them freaking great. I’m going to make them so great that that next employer is going to be like, Damn, you are awesome. Because I don’t know whatever you came from, but I’m all about culture here. I’m about like, Girl, you’re I push my employees, I push my students. I push I’m going to push you. If you’re going to be around me, I’m going to push you to be better. I’m going to call you on your blind spots. I’m going to love you hard. And so that’s our culture here, is I push them to get uncomfortable and do great things with their lives. So that, to me, is a leader, you know, and I look to other women that lead I I’m just, I love other like Dr K I love that. I love that woman. And I tell her, I love what you’re doing for our industry. She inspires me. You know Julie, Julie bass Kaplan, I love her. She inspires me. She’s doing great things, and she loves people, and she is so good to people. So that’s what a leader is, is someone who inspires you to live your best life and be your best self. And that’s how I lead my my students, my team, and they know and that I will tell you Cameron like when I have to have that hard conversation with my team, is I drop into my heart space. Because if I can have a conversation from my heart space and not my head space, which is our ego, right, when we’re in our ego, we’re going to ruin relationships. And so I’ve learned that over the years, and so I really try to have that hard conversation. Maybe I misunderstood, maybe I didn’t see their perspective, because we all have different perspectives. So help me understand your perspective. Help me understand maybe what I miss. And so when I come from that heart space, then I don’t jeopardize a relationship.
Yeah, yeah. It’s more thought through. It’s not reactive, right? It’s, it’s more thought through. It’s yeah, no, that’s and that, that’s a, that’s a hard thing to learn over the years, right? I think, like, especially in entrepreneurship, like, when we’re so busy, right, having nine streams of income, you’re very, busy, and there’s always a fire, like today, I’m sure there was some sort of an email or a text or some sort something chaotic took place today, like it just did, you know? And that could be a reactive response, or it could be like, hold on, let’s step back. Let’s, let’s talk about this. Think about it. And that, you know, I very much appreciate that, because I’ve experienced that too, you know, in in my career, of a lot of times like, Hey, I’m just busy, I got to react and move on, you know, and be like, Okay, after a few years, you know, you you know, you get to the entrepreneur, mature level, which is, which is fantastic, and truly makes a Great, great leader. So that’s great. You said that, is there
anything else that
that you want to, you know, talk to us about, just in terms of, you know, where you think the the industry is going like, and I see this, the the wellness really taking off. It’s almost like esthetics and wellness combined. Now, I’ve seen so much growth over the past five years. You’ve seen that growth like I’m curious to know what is your take on the next five years? Yeah,
it’s exciting, right? I think what is really exciting is that people are more intentional. And you know, you use the word intentional before, when you run your business intentionally, you make massive progress. And when people are more intentional about their image and their health, then there are that’s just only going to catapult our industry even more. So we know, you know, the Kardashians stimulated growth in our industry with, you know. Handles Kylie’s lips and and then with the whole zoom boom effect, right? Because then during COVID, everybody was on Zoom. So that stimulated our industry as well. And now, I mean, we have Tiktok, and everybody doing all these things. I mean, it’s just going to continue to grow. But I think we’re also getting more intentional about taking better care of ourselves, mentally, spiritually, physically, you know, just looking better, feeling better, and so I think that’s just going to continue to grow. And, you know, there’s a lot of, you know, new things coming to the market. You know, we’re learning more about these exosomes and other, you know, products that are going to be game changers, that completely revolutionize what we’re doing, we will see aging reverse. We’re already seeing it using Metformin and, you know, intermittent fasting and other things we’re seeing. I mean, I’m almost 50, you guys, I don’t even use Botox,
but I got a sauna. I got a sauna in my garage
do the anti aging protocols. So this is just skincare, because I’m resistant to neurotoxins. But, and, you know, it’s the gym working out, and it’s being unhappy and healthy and in love of my life that I think is, you know, that’s from the inside out. That’s huge. I love my life and so, and I have so much gratitude that I think it just kind of reflects in my my energy so but, yeah, I think our industries just can continue to improve and get better, and hopefully we have more leaders. That’s our next women’s conference. We changed it from empower her to her success summit. Okay? And we’re having leaders from all industries coming in and speaking to women and really just letting them know who they are, and to stand in their power and to go after what it is they want. No limitations, no apologies, just go all in on yourself, because you only got this one life, so you might as well just go all in. Go
for it. Yep, I love it. I absolutely love it. No, and you’re right. I mean, like, I think that there’s, like, this awakening that’s taking place in the wellness side. It’s like, you know what, years go by, but you know, I want the age and the look, and I wish there was a magic pill to be like, 21 again. That would be amazing. But it’s about the discipline, and it’s about educating yourself. And, like you said, like, you know, metformin and, you know, like rivers at troll and NMN, you know, like, a lot of that stuff, like, if you continue to educate yourself, and a lot of this is getting put into the esthetic spaces with wellness, it’s almost like, if you’re already, if you’re going and getting, let’s just say, Botox, for example, that provider, hopefully is educating you on on the wellness side of things, and that’s also going to increase revenue as a practice owner, by the way. So if you guys are just like, if they’re just coming in for that treatment, by the way, and you’re only talking about that treatment, and you’re not talking about the other things that you can do, they’re never going to know, right? You need, you need to educate them on that process. And I see that sometimes, and it’s just like, my goodness, I’ve gone to a place and I’ve got a treatment done, and that was kind of end of it. And I’ve gone to other practices because I like Secret Shop them. It’s kind of fun. And did the amount of education sometimes, depending on where you go, is is amazing. Like, I was at a practice in Lehi, Utah, and you probably know the one pretty well known brand, and, you know, they were like, hey, it was last time you had blood work done. I’m like, I don’t know. It’s been maybe, maybe a year. I can’t remember. And so I was getting a treatment done. I might as well just got the blood work done then. And then I got the results. And my gosh, it was just like, it was really cool to just have that educational experience while at the same time, they’re generating more revenue and making the patient more sticky, right? Like, I’m now even more loyal, right? So as so, like, just through the lens of a of a patient or client, but no, I think it’s, I agree with you. I think we have a long way to go, and it’s been super exciting to be a part of it. And, you know, thank you so much for everything that you do for the space and empowering women and practice owners and entrepreneurship. And, you know, I can’t wait to, hopefully I see an email or some sort of social post about the book release. You know, I’ll definitely contribute to that and make sure to read it. So, Yvonne, thank you so much for for joining. For those that want to find you, hear about you, connect with you, where’s the best place for them to go?
