Hemphill,
hey everybody. Cameron Hemphill, here your host for medical millionaire. Hey, first off, thank you so much for taking the time to tune into the podcast. Our goal is to give incredible value and insight for medical practice owners. So if you own a medical practice, you’re thinking about getting into the esthetics practice, cosmetics practice, anything related to health and wellness. This podcast, it’s 100%
designed for you. We want to help you take your practice to the next level. So my team and I, we have consulted practice owners all over the country and outside the country for years, and we want to help you with your journey. So throughout this journey together, we want to help take you wherever you are, to the next level. So what I want to talk about today, specifically is something that is super important, and I think we all really need to pay attention to it. And it really talks about becoming miserable. And what does misery really mean? Right? A lot of times you can look at two sides of misery, going to work, doing something positive, doing a hard workout, eating healthy, waking up early, going the extra mile, doing the extra push up like doing the things right, doing the things that are hard is miserable, right? But is it miserable? Good? You can have two sides of misery, number one being the good size of misery, the fact that if you do things hard that you know are miserable, like, oh man, going on that five mile run that sounds miserable, right? However, you know when you’re done with that run or done with that workout, you know that you’re going to feel incredible. It’s like short term misery creates long term success. I want to say that again, short term misery creates long term success. Anything that we do that is challenging, anything that we do is hard, is going to create long term success, okay, if you want to have long term misery, the other side of it, long term misery, right? Short term success to create long term misery, I want you guys to understand the two different sides, and I want to make sure that you guys choose the overall short term misery to create long term success. Okay? We all know that eating healthy can be kind of miserable, like maybe we don’t want to eat the salad, right? We want to eat the pizza, you know, we want to have the donuts. We don’t want to eat the apples. We don’t want to eat the squash. We don’t want to eat the brussels sprouts, whatever. But you know, we all know that that short term misery is going to create long term health, long term success, right? And you can apply that to every aspect in your life, whether you’re a practice owner or not. I mean, apply this principle to every single role that you have as a human being. So if you’re a mother, if you’re a practice owner, if you’re a spouse, right? If you run extracurricular activities, like maybe you you run a you know, you work for a team, or your church, or whatever the case is. Understand like, apply this principle, and I tell you what, I promise you, if you apply this principle to your life, you will be happier. You will feel achievement. And you have to apply discipline to good misery. You have to do it over and over and over and over again in order to see the result right. For example, you can’t apply a short term misery running five miles today, let’s say, You know what I’m gonna I’m gonna take what Cameron says. I’m gonna wake up and I’m gonna have short term misery. I’m gonna go on the five mile run, and I may feel good afterwards, right? I may feel like crap for a second, right? It’s a long run, but, but I’m gonna feel good afterwards. I’m gonna feel achieved, I’m gonna feel confident, I’m gonna have a clear head. But if you only do it one time, if you only do it one day and then the following day, you’re just back to where you are. You’re not creating the pathway to success, the pathway to achievement. You have to have discipline. So compound your short term misery with. Discipline like this is a success formula I’m laying out right now, guys, if you apply this and compound it with discipline to every aspect you are going to take wherever you are to the next level, and you will definitely become the next best version of yourself. And you adapt this, go back like do it for a year. Come back, listen to this podcast again, this specific episode again, and say, oh my gosh, I took this guy’s advice. I happened to listen to this episode. Look at where my life is now versus where it was a year is a long time. 365 days. How many days are in the week, right? How many hours are in the days? How many minutes are in the hours apply this principle, do the hard things. The hard things is what most people do not want to do. The people that take long term misery, right? They want short success. They’re the ones that think that there’s a shortcut, you know? They’re the ones that are going to fall in their face. They’re the ones that are going to realize, wow, like you have to continue to fight and win and win and win and keep going and understand that misery creates happiness. Isn’t that weird to think about? Why would I do something miserable to create happiness? You just have to take the time to think about it. You know, we don’t want to wake up early. We don’t want to get, you know, be the first one at the office. We don’t want to be the first one at the gym. You know, we don’t want to, like, do all of these things, take our vitamins. Like, if I took you guys through my morning routine, some of you may know it, some of you don’t, might as well go through it. Now, my morning routine is so strict, it’s so disciplined. And I have been doing it for over 12 years. I want to say at this point in time, like it is a strict 4am wake up, it is a strict stretch, strict journaling stretch vitamin intake, like the amount of vitamins and in health stuff that I take, like, anti aging, longevity, like, all this stuff that I do in the morning. It’s, it’s crazy, it’s, it’s, but it’s something that I know that if I continue to do, it’s gonna create long term success for me. I love that short term misery. Keep feeding the beast. Feed me, right? So waking up early when that alarm goes off, I’m like, Oh, almost every time, I’m like, Are you serious? It’s already time to wake up. And I know if I don’t get out of bed, like, I’m not gonna have that long term success for that quick, short term misery, I know it’s like, just waking up and getting out of bed, that point right there is the hardest part. It’s literally the hardest part, because it’s early, guys, and I’m tired. I go to bed early, but I’m telling you, I’m tired. It’s hard to get the previous day was a long day, and sometimes it feels like I’m like, doing the same thing over and over and over again. And actually, today was one of those days. Today was a really hard time, like, I had a hard time waking up. I had a hard time getting out of bed. I don’t know if I just slept super deep or whatever, whatever that was. But I got up, I did it. And in my brain, everything in my brain, even though I’ve been doing this for so long, like, I don’t even need to set an alarm, the it’s like, I just opened my eyes, almost like a minute before the alarm goes off. It’s so weird. Even though I’m dead tired, I’m like, oh, something’s gonna happen. You know, it’s it. Today was one of those days where I was just like, I don’t want to do it. I don’t want to go on my run. I don’t want to wake up right now. I could use another hour’s sleep. I don’t want to do my workout. I just I did all that like, it’s been a long week, you know? But you know what I did? I took the misery, I took the misery path. And now I’m recording this podcast. I’m recording this episode. I feel great. I feel great because I took the time to take that misery. I took the misery, I embraced the misery. I love the misery, right? So I’m like, You know what? Get out of bed, get your ass up, right? So we get up. I’ll take it through the routine. You know? It’s, it’s, again, very diligent, very strict, journaling, stretching. I’m a diligent stretcher. Like, the older I get, the more I feel like I’m tight, my back hurts. I’m an avid runner. I run almost every single day, and as I run, I’ve seen, like, over time, my body is starting to take kind of an impact, you know, like, like, it’s an impactful activity. You’re taking all of these steps, right? So I now stretch for 20 minutes every single morning. I roll, if you guys don’t roll, my gosh, that’s something that is incredible. You could take one of those PVC pipes or like foam rollers. I roll every single morning. I stretch every single morning. Okay, I told you, I take my vitamins. I’m very disciplined about the vitamins that I take. They’re all stuff that you guys probably take. But if you’ve ever read Dr David Sinclair’s book lifespan, I take a lot of the stuff that he does. I have my powders that I put in my drink, you know, testosterone, those types of things like, I want to feel good, I want to have energy. I want to be sharp. I. To be clear minded, right? And this stuff, it costs capital, right? The the the stuff that I take isn’t cheap, you know, but I’m going to take it. I’m going to take the time to invest again, Misery. I’m going to, I don’t want to buy the vitamins and then the powders and the injections that I take. I don’t want to buy them. But I know if I if I take capital in exchange for these medications and supplements, I’m going to have long term success. So I’ll take that misery all day long, because I know it’s going to contribute to my success plan.

rise to so I take the vitamins, do the journaling. I have this great book, you guys, some of you may have it. It’s like five minute journaling. I do it every day. Kind of go through what happened yesterday, my wins for the day, my thought process, the outcomes, those types of things. I really just put pen to paper, and then after that, I go through my goal setting. So I look at goals, my previous goals, check the ones off the list, and then I go through which ones I need to accomplish for the day, for the week, for the year, and I break it down based upon roles in my life, right? So I’m a husband. I mean, I’m a father. I have two daughters, so I have goals for each daughter. I have goals for my marriage. I have goals for me, personally, outside of work, I have goals for my health, my fitness, and I have business goals and financial goals. I review them diligently. Are we on track? Are we off track? If we’re off track, why? Right? Because we can get off track like we’re all human, right? So we have the ability to, like, get off a track. We got to get back on track. And this is like goal setting. And goal accountability is really like keeping the foundation approach of making sure you’re on the right track. It’s your it’s like your report card, it’s your score count, right? So if you’re not keeping track of your goals, make sure to do something again. I can tie this back to misery. Sitting down and doing your goals is miserable. It’s not fun. We’d rather watch Netflix, right? It’s easier, right? But Easy, easy creates long term misery, right? So I’m telling you do it and continue to do it, and you will see a huge impact in your life, right? So the next thing that I go through is I go through a gratitude walk, okay? I go outside. I’m outside early. It’s dark outside, right? I go on a quick little gratitude walk. It’s not long, but I think about everything that brings joy to my life, everything that brings happiness. And I get to wake up today, I get to do all these things. I get to try to achieve my goals. I get to go on a run, I get to work out, I get to work. I get the ability to have shitty emails that can come in my inbox, right? We get to do these things. This is awesome. If you wake up and you go on a pout walk, you know? Oh, gotta go to work today. Oh, I got to see Frank. Gosh, I hate seeing Frank at the water cooler. Man, that guy’s annoying. Oh, I have to deal with traffic. Oh, you know, like, Oh, my how my spouse is bugging me. Oh, my house is dirty, right? Like, that’s just miserable, right? That’s just, that’s no way to live. So you have to look at the bright side. You have to look at the quality of life and realize that, you know, the universe is massive, and we’re so small on this planet that you need to embrace it. You know, life is short, so the gratitude walk is something I’ve been doing diligently for, you know, like I said, over 12 years now, after that, I do breath work, right? I do breath work. If you guys have heard of Wim Hof, I’m a diligent Wim Hof follower, if you will. But I go through my breath work. You know, it takes me about 20 minutes, big deep breaths, long holds. And what’s, what’s really cool about how I do this is I do my long breath holds. And my long breath holds is when I bring in my visuals. So. So if you guys don’t do visualizations, like, I don’t know if you ever did this back in the day, maybe you had a dream board. Remember dream boards like they were super cool. You’d have a dream board. You’d put everything that you wanted in life on this board. Maybe it was like a wedding ring, or it was like a happy spouse, or it was a baby, or whatever it was, or like a car home. I remember those. What’s funny, my wife still has hers, and we looked at it the other day. It’s awesome, by the way. Like I look at her dream board, she did this. I think when she was like, maybe 1819, 20, something like that, all of those dreams came true on her dream board. We looked at him like, you know what’s cool about this? All these dreams came true for you, like you wrote them down. You visualize it. It came true. Isn’t that neat, you know. So I think it’s you know. Never lose sight of dreaming and visualization. You know, by speaking to the the Universal Intelligence you know, and having these visuals that happen to you and happen for you, there is a big thing to say about law of attraction. When you continuously have visuals of things that are going to happen in your life, like obviously, in a positive way, they start to become a reality, because you’re focusing there, right? So during these breath holds, I do visualizations, and I go through my visualizations of things that I want to have happen to me financially, things that I want to have happen to me from a fitness and health standpoint, things that I want to have happen to me through a relational standpoint, from an innovation standpoint, from just, you know, overall generosity and being, you know, Kind and Courteous to others, like a lot of this stuff is what I go through and I visualize it. I’ll give you a great example. I literally, when I go through my financial aspect of it, I visualize dollars coming into my into my bank, like, I visualize it coming and I actually look like, I mentally create like, a ticker sign going up, you know, and so if it’s like, if it’s appointments for you, or if it’s like, date nights with the spouse, or, if it’s like, I go through all of these things as well, and I truly visualize them coming into my soul, into my life. And what happens is that I’m focused on those, and those, those take place. So as I’m doing the breath work, I’m doing my visuals, and then what I do next is, I say a prayer, right? I say a prayer for everything in my life. Thank God, have faith and really go through that in the sense of, you know, saying a prayer for me, personally, you know, my spouse, kids, business like again, I kind of go through all the roles in my life and and really just, thank God, right? After that, guys like, I’m telling you, it’s very disciplined. I do this every single day, right? And so after that, I go on my run, right? So right now it’s a little hot during the day where I live, so I go on the run. And then after my run, I’m super sweaty because I’m outside and it’s just hot where I’m at. But then I do my workout. Okay? So I do my workout after that, once the workout is done, then it’s a cold shower. It’s a freezing cold shower. It feels amazing. It’s shocking at first, but there is a tremendous amount of benefits from taking cold showers, right? A lot of people are doing like, ice baths. I don’t have an ice bath. Maybe one day I’ll get one, but it’s a cold shower for me right now, right? So that is a very diligent, miserable morning. I mean, that is a miserable morning, right? And then compound it with discipline, like that is a miserable morning. This guy wakes up early he does all this shit. Like, when does he have time to do all this? By the way, all of this is accomplished. Every aspect of that whole process right there it is all accomplished by 6am all of its done by 6am wake up before all that’s done by six, okay? Because I want that time my kids go to school at about seven, super early for whatever reason, where we are, but I want to all done by six. So then I have the hour to help get them and I take my kids to school every single every single morning, right? So when they’re in school, I take them to school every single morning. And that is, that’s, that’s a, that’s a miserable experience, like taking your kids to school every single morning. Hey, I love my kids. Well, our kids, but like, we all know it can also be a miserable experience, right? Like, if you have kids, you know it can, cries, tears, fights, all that stuff can happen in the car and but it’s long term success. It’s long term love. You know, doing it you’re going to feel better after, right? I know going through this entire process in the morning for me is going to make me feel better after, and it’s going to put me in a position to keep becoming the next best version of myself, so I can lead, right? And if you’re turning into episodes like this, and you’re listening to great content like this, you’re a leader. You want to become a leader, or you are a leader, or you are ready to take your practice in the next level, or you are ready to get in and just in, just, you know, dominate your field, you know, crush your field, and do what’s right for you so you can. Feel good, you know, helping and serve others. But I want to tie this back to misery again, right? I want to bring it full circle. Because, as I just said, that sounds like a miserable morning. I absolutely love the miserable morning. It makes me so empowered for the day. I can basically feel like I can accomplish anything else, because I’ve already done my miserable shit, right? I’ve already done it right. Now, let’s take the other approach. Let’s say you don’t have a morning like this. You sleep until nine. I’ve already, I’m already, you know, hours ahead of you. I got five hours on you. Every day you sleep until nine. I wake up at four. I’m gaining five hours on you every single day, right? And that’s just the reality of the situation. So my misery, my miserable morning that I go through, I’m passing you up in time. I’m getting faster, I’m getting better, I’m getting sharper.
I’m contributing to society, right? And I’m not saying, If you sleep until nine, you’re a worthy piece of crap. I’m not saying that. I’m just, I’m trying to get to the point to where misery is good. Misery is good, the right, Misery. So let’s just, let’s go through it. Wake up at nine, okay, because you want to sleep in and it just, you know, you felt better. But that short term success is going to create a long term, miserable plan, and a long term, like miserable day. You wake up at nine, let’s say you got a bit of the practice at 10. Okay, so you rush shower, get you know, hair down, whatever you got to do, and you’re finally to practice at 10. Okay, you get in and and how do you feel mentally? Are you sharp? Are you ready to take on that lead? Are you ready to take on that new patient? Are you ready to run your team? Are you ready to lead with impact, right? Do you have people that are beating you to the practice? You know what I’m saying? So if some people come to me like, Dude, it’s eight o’clock and you’re already just like, on fire, well, I’ve been up for a few hours. I mean, I’ve been up for four hours. I’ve already ran I’ve already worked out, I’ve already I’ve already done all this stuff. It’s midday for me, right? So tying it back to misery, guys, is please do yourself a favor and realize the right path of misery, compounded with discipline, will create a very impactful, successful life for you, don’t take short term misery over long term misery, alright, guys, I’ll leave it at that. Thank you so much for listening and tuning in again. This is Cameron Hemphill. If you found this content valuable, share it. Keep the conversation going.
